Diagnostic Imaging Specialties and Services
The Diagnostic Imaging Department at Valley Children’s offers a wide range of services for children, adolescents, and expectant mothers:
- General radiography and fluoroscopy: Including chest, abdominal, spines, upper and lower extremities, pelvis, and head/skull procedures in general X-ray, and fluoroscopy procedures including upper and lower GI studies, arthrography and cystography
- DXA – Bone densitrometry
- Computed tomography (CT) & CTA: body, neuro and vascular imaging
- Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) comprehensive services: including body, neuro and vascular imaging (MRA/MRV), FMRI, and pediatric cardiac MRI
- Ultrasound (US): including body, neuro and vascular imaging
- Nuclear Medicine (NM)
- Interventional Radiology (IR): all percutaneous procedures (including abscess drainages, aspirations, nephrostomies, etc.), ablations, sclerotherapy, vascular procedures and central lines. IR consultations are conducted for all procedures.

Our diagnostic imaging team is not only skilled in their specialty, but they are also specially trained in treating kids. This specialized training leads to many benefits for our patients and families:
- Faster image acquisition allows for up to 40% less radiation to the patient
- Pediatric anesthesia team expands our comprehensive pediatric imaging services
- “Kid-centric” skills and techniques
- Reduced need for sedation services due to our full entertainment system in MRI Imaging and our Child Life Team which works closely with our patients to improve their imaging experience
Better access to care
- General X-rays are accessible 24/7 with physician’s order
- Outpatient CT, MRI, US, DXA and NM services provided with referring physician’s order and scheduled via our scheduling department
- Prenatal Diagnostic Services: Fetal Screening Program (State of California AFP facility), fetal MRI, first trimester screening, nuchal translucency, breast imaging
