Interprofessional Simulation Program

Valley Children’s Interprofessional Education Simulation Program is the first Simulation Program in the Central Valley to be accredited by the Society for Simulation in Healthcare. Founded in 2015, the program includes all members of our pediatric healthcare team, physicians, pharmacists, nurses, respiratory care practitioners and others. Its structure was developed by an Interprofessional Steering Committee of leaders in administration, medical and nursing education and information technology.
The program incorporates Healthcare Simulation Standards and Core Competencies for Interprofessional Collaborative Practice.
Program leaders have presented at national and international conferences sponsored by the California Simulation Alliance, INACSL, Society for Simulation in Healthcare, Extracorporeal Life Support Organization Annual Conference and The International Pediatric Simulation Society.
About the Simulation Program
Medical teams face all kinds of situations, and their skills and practices need to be ready at all times. Skills are developed through hands-on experience which happens in a simulated learning environment. We provide interprofessional simulation experiences to the entire Valley Children’s Healthcare Network. Various simulation techniques are utilized to optimize learning.
Valley Children’s Interprofessional Education Simulation Program uses high fidelity manikins, task trainers and virtual reality to simulate common medical procedures, complex medical conditions and life-threatening emergencies, even the rarest of possibilities. This allows our teams to gain experience and have a learning curve on our mannequins, not someone’s child.
Evidence proves that this high-fidelity simulation gives us better patient outcomes, and our numerous awards and accolades prove as much.
Simulation Program mission and vision
The mission of Valley Children’s Healthcare Interprofessional Simulation Program is to promote the highest quality and safest pediatric patient-centered care. Through collaborative interprofessional education using a dynamic simulation environment, we aim to improve the health and safety of our patients with quality experiences and improved outcomes.
Our vision is to disseminate expert pediatric education to healthcare organizations in the Central Valley and become a nationally recognized leader in pediatric interprofessional simulation. Our simulation experiences will exemplify our values of excellence, innovation, collaboration, integrity, stewardship and compassionate care.
Community partners
With collaborative interprofessional simulation experiences, we provide education to our community partners through dynamic simulation in their native clinical environments. Our goal to improve the health and safety of our pediatric patients means real time education utilizing a variety of simulation modalities and integrating innovative learning for healthcare professionals across the Central Valley.
