About Me

Dr. Michael Finch joined Valley Children’s Specialty Medical Group as a pediatric gastroenterologist in October 2010.

Dr. Finch previously practiced in Phoenix, Arizona, where he was the chief of pediatric gastroenterology at Children’s Health Care of St. Joseph’s Hospital and Medical Center. He is double board certified in pediatrics and pediatric gastroenterology and has nearly 30 years of subspecialty experience. This includes 16 years in private practice in Atlanta, Georgia, where he was on staff at all three children’s hospitals and operated satellite clinics as geographically divergent as Macon, Columbus and Athens. Prior to private practice, Dr. Finch was a professor of pediatrics at Morehouse School of Medicine in Atlanta after serving in the United States Army as a military pediatric gastroenterologist with the rank of lieutenant colonel.

Dr. Finch has been involved in medical education for over 25 years and has given numerous talks and lectures to physicians, residents, students and other medical audiences on a variety of gastrointestinal subjects. An interest in international health has included formal lectures at the Philippine Pediatric Society in Manila and at the Federal University of Salvador da Bahia in Salvador, Brazil. With a special interest in childhood obesity, he founded the first of its kind weight management program for overweight inner-city youth at the Hughes Spalding Children’s Hospital in Atlanta. His professional activities include membership in the American Gastroenterology Association and North American Society of Pediatric Gastroenterology and Nutrition.

Dr. Finch received his medical degree from Boston University in Boston, Massachusetts. He completed residency training at the Kaiser Foundation Hospital in Los Angeles, California, and at Martin L. King, Jr., General Hospital in Los Angeles. Following a two-year stint as a U.S. Army pediatrician in Fort Riley, Kansas, Dr. Finch completed his fellowship in pediatric gastroenterology and nutrition at the University of Iowa Hospital and Clinics in Iowa City, Iowa.
