Carl Owada, MD

Board certified by in pediatric cardiology and pediatrics by the American Board of Pediatrics, Dr. Carl Owada joined Valley Children’s Specialty Medical Group in July 1997. He is medical director of the pediatric cardiac catheterization laboratory.

A pioneer in pediatric cardiac catheterization, Dr. Owada was the Hearts of Gold Honoree at the American Heart Association Gala in 2008 in Fresno. He was recognized for his contribution to pediatric cardiology with the introduction of congenital heart defect repair by interventional catheterization techniques, thus avoiding open-heart surgery. He also is a three-time recipient of the Valley Children’s Board of Trustees Meritorious Service Award for Research and Innovation.

Dr. Owada is a member of several professional societies, including fellowship in the American College of Cardiology and The Society for Cardiac Angiography and Interventions.

Graduating from Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis, Missouri, Dr. Owada completed an internship in pediatrics and a pediatric residency at Stanford University. He completed a pediatric cardiology fellowship and a senior interventional catheterization fellowship in pediatric cardiology at the Cardiovascular Research Institute-University of California, San Francisco.

Dr. Owada received his bachelor’s and master’s degrees in bioengineering at the University of California, San Diego. He actively conducts clinical research and serves as a national proctor in catheter-based therapy.

He enjoys spending his free time cycling and with his wife and their three children.
