About Me

Dr. Wan-Keung Chen joined Valley Children’s Specialty Medical Group as a child abuse pediatrician in February 2020 and is the medical director of the Valley Children’s Child Advocacy clinic. He also serves as Chair of the Child Advocacy Committee and on the Suspected Child Abuse and Neglect (SCAN) teams and Child Death Review Teams (CDRT) for several counties throughout the Central Valley.

Prior to his current role, Dr. Chen worked as the assistant director of the Child Abuse Pediatrics Program at Westchester Institute for Human Development, as well as the assistant director of the Forensic Acute Care Team (FACT) at Westchester Medical Center. While in these positions, he focused on quality improvement and educational interventions for staff through development of educational materials, policies and protocols. Dr. Chen also spent more than five years as an instructor of pediatrics at New York Medical College.

Dr. Chen is an active member of The Ray E. Helfer Society and the American Academy of Pediatrics. He also served on the Multidisciplinary Team (MDT) of the Child Advocacy Centers of Putnam County and the MDT and Child Fatality Review Team (CFRT) of Westchester County. These committees coordinated a response team and investigated allegations of child sexual abuse, serious physical abuse and domestic violence involving or witnessed by children. Passionate about protecting and serving children involved in child abuse cases, Dr. Chen also served on the Photodocumentation Task Force and Child Protection Committee at Westchester Medical Center.

This passion reflects further in Dr. Chen’s research and presentations. His previous research includes physician interpretation of injuries among infants under one-month of age. He has presented previous research at a variety of colleges and conferences including New York Medical College, New York State Child Abuse Prevention conference and Manhattan Children’s Advocacy Center.

Dr. Chen earned his medical degree from George Washington University School of Medicine and Health Science. He went on to complete his pediatric residency at Cohen's Children's Medical Center in New Hyde Park, New York. Dr. Chen then completed a fellowship in Child Abuse Pediatrics at New York Medical College in Valhalla, New York.
